That’s because the distinction of a real wood garage door can add depth and beauty to your home—increasing its curb appeal, as well as increasing the real estate value of one of your most prized possessions—your home. Our wood doors are custom-designed. We can match the décor of other decorative elements of your home or design something totally unique. If you have an idea for it, we can build it! And best of all, wood doors can be insulated to give you the energy-saving abilities that help you to keep your home warm or cool in every season.

You have two decisions to make on putting together a beautiful new customized wood door.

Option One

Wood on Metal
In this method, a layer of quality wood, typically cedar, is glued and screwed onto a heavy duty metal commercial door. This 3/4" thick overlay is stain grade and can be fashioned to imitate many different styles. It benefits from the internal integrity of a commercial metal door, while allowing a beautiful real wood external facade. The door can be finished with the "smooth" side of the wood showing for a fine furniture finish look or with the "rough" side out for a more rustic finish.

Benefits

It looks great!
It can be stained.
It has a controlled and stable support system underneath the wood.

Drawbacks

It’s fairly weighty; a typical two-car garage door will be 500lbs.
The wood has different characteristics than the metal it is mounted to, and this can cause the wood to split, especially in the blistering Texas heat (and sometimes freezing cold).
A larger motor is required for long-term operation of the larger sized doors.
The wood used on these doors is typically tongue-and-groove cedar.
There is no warranty on the finish. The wood may split over time.
It needs to be re-sealed every two years. This means painting on another coat of sealer (not strip and sand).

Pricing
Prices vary by the door size, as well as the finish, the type of wood and the addition of decorative windows and hardware. It is best to have a good idea of the door you want to have installed for us to give you an accurate estimate. Here are a few starting numbers to consider.

Single-Car Garage $1,500 installed. (8'W x 7'H)
Two-Car Garage $2,500 installed. (16'W x 7'H)

Options and add-ons might include insulation, staining, windows, additional overlays (such as arches or embellishments), decorative hardware, etc.

These prices include materials, labor, a three-year warranty on the door and a one-year warranty on the wood. (There is no warranty on the finish.)

Option Two

Solid Wood
The solid wood door is a stunning embellishment of your home, largely because of the ability to highly customize the door. You can reflect a decorative element of your house or gates, or you can design something entirely new to give your home a distinctive, elegant look. We will work closely with you to design the perfect overhead garage door to fit your needs and specifications.

Benefits

The look is stunning and highly-customized.
Your door can be made of either cedar or pine.
The inside of the door will also be aesthetically pleasing.
Since the wood expands and contracts the same throughout the door, the amount of splitting and separation is highly reduced.

Drawbacks

There is no metal backing beneath the wood, which means less structural support.
Wood can warp and bend over time, causing the door to sag.
